City in Georgia, administrative center of Dmanisi municipality. Dmanisi has the cathedral and residence of the Diocese of Dmanisi and Agarak-tashiri. Population 2661 (2014). Dmanisi was a major strategic and economic center of medieval Georgia.

It is located in the southern mountain range of Georgia, on the Dmanisi volcanic plateau, on both banks of the mashaveri River, 1250 m above sea level. In 1999, two Hominid skulls were unearthed here, proving Dmanisi to be home to the earliest humans outside Africa. Beyond its prehistoric significance, Dmanisi also served as an important commercial hub during Georgia's medieval era, providing a layered historical narrative.
  • Tsugrugasheni Church (13th Century)
    The tour concludes with a visit to the Tsugrugasheni Church, located just 10 kilometers from Bolnisi. This cross-domed masterpiece is celebrated for its intricate stone carvings around the windows and arches, as well as fragments of stunning frescoes that once adorned its walls.
